Axial 22
May 29th - June 12th
Arianna, Olivia, Rae, and Sasha
This years Axial residents were able to stay for two different lengths of time. Arianna, Olivia, Rae, and Sasha were all able to stay for one week. Rae and Sasha were able to stay for a second week as well. During the week where they were all in residence, their project explored the learning self and the psychology of being a student. They explored this through character research, writing, drawing, dancing, and screendance. The screendace was shown as a part of an installation where others were given the prompt to write a letter to their younger selves. The prompt was given as a tool for others to come into present moment, with the hopes that they could bring some of their childhood self with them. The installation also included a projection outside of stuffed animals watching some of their favorite childhood cartoons.
Rase and Sasha stayed for a second week. During which they explored their collective creative practice. Along with movement generation, They explored the landscape of the residency, and the surrounding hills. They met with the elder trees of The Croft to listen. They practiced getting lost, entering the woods with verbal directions from Ben, and seeing how their walk manifested.
